We here at the City Paper like our fringe sports. Kickball, cornhole, beer pong, the Bushido Spicy Tuna Roll Challenge. So imagine our surprise when we learned about a new sport that has found a home in the Holy City: Hurling. Like you, we had never heard of it before, and frankly, when we first did, we thought somebody was talking about curling, which is only like the best Olympic sport ever. So what's hurling, you ask? Well, it's a much-loved, traditional Irish sport that's like some WTF combo of lacrosse, baseball, and Thunderdome, and it really has to be seen to be believed. If you're interested, get in touch with the folks at the Charleston Hurling Club. We're sure they'll be more than happy to teach you how to whack a sliotar with a hurley.
