The sky threatened rain for most of Saturday, but the weather held out nicely as the Charleston Hurling Club enjoyed a day out at the 43^rd Annual Charleston Scottish Games & Highland Gathering. The yearly Scottish Games at Boone Hall Plantation always guarantee a grand time and this year was no exception. Club members, our families, and friends settled in for a long day of spectating, recruiting, and imbibing. We had an enjoyable time watching events like the sheaf toss and the caber toss all while listening to some talented pipers and drummers.

2013 was a brilliant year for the club. We nearly doubled in size for active members, hosted our first tournament, participated in an additional four tournaments and won three. We received our first sponsorships and had our own jerseys made.

When Tommy Snee of Molly Darcy's first approached the club offering to do a fundraiser event to help to benefit the club, we weren't quite sure what to think of it. Naturally, we accepted the offer and organized the event.

Last night, Irish singer, songwriter, and historian Derek Warfield (of Wolfetones fame) visited Charleston while on his North American tour with his band, the Young Wolfe Tones. Hosted at Molly Darcy's of Charleston, the Young Wolfe Tones performed a fantastic set playing traditional Irish ballads and Warfield's famous rebel songs.
