2014 Scottish Games at Boone Hall

The sky threatened rain for most of Saturday, but the weather held out nicely as the Charleston Hurling Club enjoyed a day out at the 43rd Annual Charleston Scottish Games & Highland Gathering. The yearly Scottish Games at Boone Hall Plantation always guarantee a grand time and this year was no exception. Club members, our families, and friends settled in for a long day of spectating, recruiting, and imbibing. We had an enjoyable time watching events like the sheaf toss and the caber toss all while listening to some talented pipers and drummers.

2013 was a brilliant year for the club. We nearly doubled in size for active members, hosted our first tournament, participated in an additional four tournaments and won three. We received our first sponsorships and had our own jerseys made.

In all, 45 hurlers from the Southeastern Division of the North American GAA came together in Cayce, South Carolina on Saturday, April 6th, for the second annual Tartan Day South hurling tournament. However, this was the first year that a trophy was on offer, affectionately named after the Consulate General of Ireland in Atlanta, the prestigious Paul Gleeson Cup.
