2019 Holy City Cup - Tournament Recap

This was the 7th Holy City Cup in the club’s history and turned out to be the biggest tournament to date. With two fields to play on, eight teams were present including Greenville, Knoxville, two teams from Augusta, two teams from Charleston, a college team in UNC-Chapel Hill, and the newly reformed Charlotte club. There were also some players from Orlando, Tampa, Columbus and Raleigh to help some teams out with numbers. The tournament also had two USGAA registered referees, Scott Cooper from Tampa and Keith Knot from Akron.

The 2019 Fall Pub League started in September. This year's sponsors are Daps Imbibe, captained by Chris Stratton, and Johnson & Wilson Real Estate, captained by Tiff Nichols. First two games went to Johnson & Wilson in hard fought battles. But Daps picked up points by having more players show up (1 point for every game to the team that has the most) and having a new recruit (1point for every new recruit that a member of that team gets). We welcomed Alison MacLeod as our club's female participation continues to grow exponentially. She did a great job for her first week holding a hurl!

The inaugural Charleston Irish Pub Tour was an absolute blast! From morning until night; Folly Beach to Mt. Pleasant. We raised money for our trip to the USGAA Finals while stopping at six of Charleston’s most authentic Irish pubs. We had Irish coffee and Irish nachos; games and prizes; blessings and toasts — whiskey and more whiskey!

July 14, 2019 at 6:30am: the sounds of banshees screaming were heard in a hotel room in Galway City — or maybe it was just that awful alarm clock waking us up. With the smell of bad decisions and regrets looming in the room after we attended the wedding of a former teammate, we quickly (miraculously) popped out of bed and headed to the train station.
