2019 Fall Pub League - Week 6

Nov. 5, 2019 • Andrew Maron

The penultimate game of the season followed a busy day for Charleston Hurling. Saturday November 2nd saw a number of our members volunteering to promote the club and hurling as a whole. First, we had members taking the time to help the Citadel with their first time hosting the NCGAA Southeast regionals, with UNC and Virginia Tech in attendance. We also had our members represent the club at the Charleston Scottish Highland games, and managed to recruit a few people to come out and play the next day! Both J&W and Daps had strong showings for the Pub League matchup, with Daps having only a slight advantage in numbers. The first half had a few back and forth scores, with Brandon Callahan putting Daps on his back and scoring 7 of their 9 points in the first half. However, J&W held the advantage at 3-3 (12) to 2-3 (9) at halftime. The second half showed a stark difference in play. Daps managed an impressive defensive performance, locking down J&W’s offense completely and holding them to only 1 point for the majority of the half. The final play of the game gave J&W an opportunity to send it to extra time, with the offense making a final push for a goal. After a quick give and go, Brendan Dagg hit the ball just a little too high, and sent it over the bar for only 1 point:

2019 Fall Pub League - Week 5

Oct. 29, 2019 • Andrew Maron

There was a low turnout for week 5 of Fall Pub League as both teams struggled to get healthy players on the field after the 6th Annual Scruffy City Invitational. Team Wilson & Johnson only fielded six healthy players and Team Daps fielded eight. Team W&J borrowed Paul Moore from Team Daps to so that we could play a game of 7v7. Throwing convention into the wind, both teams agreed to played three 15-minute periods, counting only goals, no points. This forced both teams to work the ball up field and take shots on net. Team Daps started strong with high-pressure offense and ended the first period leading Team W&J by three goals (5 to 2).

6th Annual Scruffy City Invitational in Knoxville

Oct. 22, 2019 • Andrew Maron

After the 7th Annual Holy City Cup, there was a short respite to prepare for 6th Annual Scruffy City Invitational in Knoxville. As you may be aware, the Knoxville Hurling Club walked away from Charleston with our cup in hand. The bitter taste of defeat left several Charleston players determined to make the trip north to challenge Knoxville for their own trophy, the Clancy Cup.

2019 Fall Pub League - Week 3

Oct. 8, 2019 • Andrew Maron

Despite some lingering soreness from the 7th Annual Holy City Cup, we had a great turnout this week and we were able to play 10 v 10 with subs. The game turned into a high scoring affair. Wilson&Johnson were relentless with their scoring as they were able to point at will and from almost anywhere on the field. The halftime score was 28-9.
